AI Transparency Policy
Where AI is used in VirtualX, what it does, and what it does not do. It is part of the Terms and Conditions you accept at sign-up.
Where AI is used
AI is used in one place: the study assistant, which answers questions about a specific lesson. You can use it inside VirtualX, on the web and in the Android app, and on our WhatsApp study-help number once you have linked WhatsApp to your account.
How it is grounded
Answers are drawn from the material of the lesson the learner has open, and the source is shown with the answer. When a question goes beyond that lesson, the assistant says so rather than answering from general knowledge.
What it does
It explains the lesson (Chat), guides you step by step and checks your understanding (Tutor), gives hints and method first for a homework question (Homework Help), and writes a quick practice question from the lesson and shows whether your choice was right (Quiz). Practice questions are for practice only: they are not tests, and your choices are not recorded.
What it is not
It does not write lessons, set or mark tests, adapt a learning path, or make any decision about a learner. The self-check questions in lessons are written and checked by people.
Inputs
A learner may send text, a photograph or screenshot, or a document. There is no voice or video input.
What happens to what you send
Your question, the lesson material it is about and any attachment are sent to our study-assistant service and to the AI model provider that writes the answer, outside South Africa (see the Privacy Policy). The study assistant never receives your learning record.
Neither our servers nor our study-assistant service keep the text of a conversation after answering; the app keeps your current conversation on your device. Attachments are deleted automatically soon after they are used, and an upload that is never used is deleted after two hours. A record of each use, without its text, is kept for 90 days. We do not use your questions or your learning record to train AI models.
Human responsibility
AI output is a study aid, not a teacher and not an authority. Learners should check it against their lesson and their teacher.
